Scheme Closed
The Defence HomeOwner Scheme (DHOS) closed to new applications from 1 July 2010.
The closure followed a two year grace period to allow ex-service personnel to access any outstanding DHOS entitlement.
The Scheme was superseded by the new Defence Home Ownership Assistance Scheme (DHOAS) when it was launched on 1 July 2008.
Extenuating Circumstances
There are some limited extenuating circumstances where an applicant, who was unable to meet the 30 June 2010 deadline to submit applications for DHOS, might be able to access a similar benefit under DHOAS.
You will need to be in one of the accepted categories for extenuating circumstances to be able to receive a subsidy on an $80,000 subsidised loan limit under DHOAS.
You will be able to receive the subsidy for as long as you would have been entitled under DHOS.
Current DHOS Certificate Holders
If you currently hold a DHOS Certificate of Entitlement, further details about your entitlement and the conditions of accessing your subsidy payments are available at Current DHOS Certificate Holders.
You need to ensure you access your DHOS entitlement within one year of the issue that is on your Certificate.
Existing DHOS Subsidy Recipients
The closure of DHOS does not impact on the ongoing subsidy payments of existing clients.
However, if you are an existing DHOS client and you intend to close or change your current DHOS loan, you should contact the DHOS service line on 1300 434 627 to discuss the impact of the closure on any outstanding entitlement you have.
If your current DHOS loan arrangements are changed in any way your existing subsidy will cease and you will be unable to reapply for DHOS to restart your subsidy payments.
